AIST Team Member earns NCAA Division II National Player of the Year

AIST would like to congratulate Samantha Middleborn for being selected as the NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball National player of the Year 2010.

Junior All-American Samantha Middleborn was named the 2010 AVCA Player of the Year.

Samantha is a Jr. at California State University – San Bernardino.  She will be traveling with the AIST select Volleyball team to Italy this May with a team of Division I Volleyball players that AIST has selected.  We look forward to having such a great athlete represent the USA and AIST in international competition.

“I’m overwhelmed at being selected as my sport’s nominee and in contention for the Division II Athlete of the Year,” Middleborn said. “To be eventually among 10 other athletes in the running for this honor is pretty epic. It’s been an incredible ride in the last month where it seems like each week an honor has been announced. I’m humbled.

“Coming from my high school years where I began playing volleyball as a sophomore to where I am now, I really feel blessed. There are many great players who have been playing volleyball for a much longer period of time than myself.  I have great coaches, great teammates and a great family who have been a part of this every step of the way.”

The Rialto native led the nation this past season in hitting percentage with a school and conference record .480 average. (270 kills/50 errors/458 attacks). She also finished the year 17th in blocks at 1.18 per set. For her efforts, she was named the AVCA and Daktronics National Player of the Year.  (Courtesy of CSUSB web site)
